I am a freelance editor who once thought I would be better suited for a position as an accountant. One semester was all it took to change my mind. Now, I enjoy polishing up and putting the finishing touches on the creative thoughts of others.
Armed with a bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and years of experience editing for friends and family, I turned professional in 2019.
During my years as an amateur, I soaked up every bit of knowledge available—reading credible sources and following the careers of professionals, hoping to emulate their paths and, one day, be an editor in my own right.
With AM Editing, I use my skills as a copy editor, line editor, developmental editor, and proofreader to help you navigate the next steps in your journey.
The one I use most often is The Chicago Manual of Style, but I’m also proficient in MLA/APA and AP. Other tools I use include Microsoft Word, The Elements of Style, Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary. These are the basics, but I use any and all tools that I may need to do my job. If you’re unsure, feel free to ask me anything here! My experience ranges from novels to articles to brochures and more. I have edited fiction and nonfiction—genres across the board.

What I Do
- Edit your story with a mind to the voice of the writer.
- I am not the grammar police. I do follow all style guides as needed and requested by the writer, but I will also follow what I like to call the Fiction Style Guide. My edits will not compromise the style of your story. Worried that the intonations and inflections of your dialogue will be destroyed to maintain the integrity of comma splice rules? You don’t need to. If I’m unsure, I’ll let you know in a comment and let you decide.
- Fact check obvious information. I will fact-check spelling, basic facts, and anything that jumps out at me from the page.
- Relay my edits in a professional manner. I am an unbiased third party whose only wish is to help you make your story the best it can be.*
- Keep to a timeline. At the start of every contract, we discuss timelines and deadlines. I will respect these and expect the same in kind. I give as accurate of a timeline as I’m able, and barring any personal emergencies or issues, I will keep to the timeline. If any personal emergencies occur (“life interfering”), I will let you know as soon as possible.
What I Don’t Do
- Perfection. I am human. I thoroughly read through every line of a manuscript several times for the sole purpose of picking out errors. I even run them through an editing program during my final pass. Despite doing my best to find every error in a manuscript, some will be missed.
- Formatting. I am not a formatter. If you purchase my proofreading package, I will proof your formatting, but I will not do any formatting myself. That includes numbers, tables of contents, indexes, headings, or page breaks.
- Rewrites. I am not a ghostwriter. I will make extensive comments and suggestions during a developmental edit. I will keep an eye on inconsistencies during a copy edit, and I will reword to make the text flow better during a line edit. But I will not do rewrites.
- In-depth fact-checking. As mentioned above, I will fact-check what jumps out at me, but I won’t do in-depth research or check for factual accuracy (unless it is a subject matter that I may be familiar with, but there are no guarantees).
- Marketing or Publishing. My job starts and ends with editing. With your permission, I would love to add your book to my portfolio, which will lend itself to a limited form of marketing, but I hold no obligation to market your work or be involved in the publishing process.
*This is an assurance that no part of my job is personal. No edits that I make, suggestions I give, or critiques I put in an edit letter are personal attacks on you. My tone is and will remain professional and neutral.
Likewise, I will not tolerate any unprofessional behavior from my clients. I will not hesitate (and reserve the right) to terminate a contract if I feel that I am being personally attacked or insulted. I will not tolerate aggressive behavior, threats, or inappropriate language.
